Allison L. Weiss

For nearly a decade, Allison Weiss has represented primarily high-net-worth clients in complex matrimonial and family law matters, including divorce, equitable distribution, custody and visitation, and related areas of matrimonial practice. She is skilled in both negotiated resolutions and litigation, and regularly appears in court for conferences, arguments, and motion practice.

Since joining Alter, Wolff & Foley LLP in 2016, Allison has drafted prenuptial, postnuptial, and settlement agreements, as well as motions involving temporary orders of protection, temporary custody, interim support, counsel fees, contempt, and post-judgment modification and enforcement. She has served as second and third chair in several trials, including two financial trials and an Order of Protection hearing, and is currently preparing to second chair a custody trial in Kings County Supreme Court. Allison is known for developing customized legal strategies tailored to each client’s goals and circumstances and for building strong relationships with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, mediators, retired judges, and experts. She also plays an integral role in training and supervising junior associates at the firm.

Before joining the firm, Allison practiced at Heidell, Pittoni, Murphy & Bach, LLP, where she represented hospitals, institutions, universities, and individual health care professionals in all aspects of medical malpractice litigation. Her work included taking and defending depositions, participating in client and expert witness meetings, appearing for court conferences, and engaging in extensive research and motion practice. She managed a caseload of more than fifty matters during her time there.

Earlier in her career, Allison served as an Associate Court Attorney to the Honorable George J. Silver in the New York State Supreme Court. In that role, she assisted with case management for both a general IAS part and the trial assignment part. She conducted settlement, status, and compliance conferences with counsel and litigants, co-led a weekly blockbuster session involving Transit Authority cases, drafted decisions and orders, and supported daily courtroom operations and trials.

She earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law, where she was a Miami Scholars Recipient and was named to the Dean’s List. Allison received her Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from the University of Michigan, graduating with Senior Year Academic Honors.

Allison was admitted to the New York and New Jersey Bars in 2013.
