Sylvia Goldschmidt, Esq. is a founding partner at GOLDSCHMIDT & GENOVESE, LLP. She graduated from State University of New York at Buffalo, magna cum laude, obtained her J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School, and thereafter an LL.M. degree in Taxation from New York University School of Law.

Ms. Goldschmidt has been engaged in the private practice of law, predominantly in the field of matrimonial and family law, for almost 40 years. Her experience in this field includes the litigation of all aspects of divorce proceedings, including, complex property distribution, custody and support matters, as well as negotiation and drafting of separation, settlement, and pre-nuptial agreements. Ms. Goldschmidt has also represented clients with respect to international family law matters such as the drafting of pre-nuptial agreements, international custody disputes, enforcement of international divorce decrees, and divorce proceedings having components in different jurisdictions. Ms. Goldschmidt is also trained in the Collaborative Law and Mediation processes. She practices primarily in Westchester, New York, and Rockland counties. Many of the matters handled by Ms. Goldschmidt are complex, involving sophisticated and/or unique issues of law, whether related to economics (support and division of assets) or custody.

Ms. Goldschmidt has an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale Hubbell, has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for each of the years 1999/2000 through the present, with the further distinction of Lawyer of the Year in her field and geographic area in 2014 and 2017, as well as being designated in New York Super Lawyers for more than ten (10) years with the distinction of having for numerous years been included as Top 100 Lawyers and Top 50 Women in the Metro Area and among the Top 25 Lawyers in Westchester. She is a past President of the International Academy of Family Lawyers ("IAFL") - US Chapter and of the New York Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers ("AAML"), a former member of the National Board of Governors of the AAML, a current member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association ("NYSBA")-Family Law Section and former Section Delegate to the NYSBA House of Delegates. Ms. Goldschmidt also sat on the Advisory Committee for the Honoring Families Initiative of the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System (“HFI-IAALS”) headquartered at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado.

Ms. Goldschmidt is also Vice-President of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (“AFCC”) New York Chapter; member of the Westchester Women’s Bar Association, having formerly sat on its Board, Westchester County Bar Association having formerly sat on its Domestic Relations Executive Committee, City Bar and New York Women’s Bar Association. Ms. Goldschmidt is a former Chair of the WBASNY Matrimonial Law Committee (statewide).

Ms. Goldschmidt continues her position as a faculty member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Law Institute for Associates as she has done for more than fifteen (15) years. She has been a co-lecturer at the 2019 joint program of the AFCC and AAML on advanced issues in child custody, a faculty member of the AICPA Expert Witness Training Workshop in 2011 and 2013, lecturer for the NYSBA Family Law Section, Westchester County Bar Domestic Relations Section, Westchester Women’s Bar Association and other professional organizations.
